MAYBE – Let’s talk about it
I just came from an information session about the referendum. It was held in our local Hills Resource Centre and attended by about 20 people.
We were read the Uluru Statement from the Heart and given the wording that is proposed to be inserted in the Constitution, as well as the wording we will be asked to vote YES or NO on.
It was a very valuable session and would answer many questions for people who feel they do not have enough information to make an informed decision.
We were given time to chat to the person next to us and ask questions. Some stayed after the one hour session to keep exploring the topic.
We will receive links to websites for those wanting to explore deeper into the issues.
I’m recommending the Social Justice Team in our parish try to schedule this type of session.
The presenter encouraged us to dialogue with others in a very Ignatian way. Be curious; ask questions; respect where the other person is coming from and endeavour to find common ground.
